Create Knitted Toys: FREE Spring Chick and Nest Pattern (with video)!

Wed, Apr 12, 17

Shop manager Susan Melka is a wonderful designer, and she came up with this cutie-patootie Spring Chicks in a Nest pattern. Darling, and it's a FREE pattern!

Wouldn't this be so cute on your table throughout the spring? Or even on Easter morning! This is such a quick knit and crochet project, you could have several little chickies knit up before Easter brunch. Put them in Easter baskets, too! What child wouldn't be thrilled with a new little stuffie? I can remember WAAAAAY back when I got toys in my Easter basket, and I loved it.

Susan used Plymouth Baby Alpaca Brush, a bulky yarn that gives the chicks that perfect halo of yarn "feathers." Scraps are used for the beak, and the eyes are stitched on with black embroidery floss.

One of the really cool things about this pattern is that it starts with a Magic Circle, a great technique for projects that start in the middle, such as some shawls, stuffed animals, and even socks! Here's Susan to show you how to work the Magic Circle.

The nest is an easy crochet pattern, just using single crochet, double crochet, and chain stitches. We used Flounce Metallic (it's on super-sale right now!) for the nest, and it makes a fun, sparkly home for our darling chicks. The nest starts out with the Magic Circle, too, so you'll get some practice with this cool skill.
