Shop owner Kelley's favorite fiber is alpaca. It's one of the warmest fibers to work with, and so soft—why wouldn't you want it for your baby?
Kelley has developed a free alpaca baby hat pattern, Claire's Baby Hat, and she's following up with a pair of baby socks pattern, Claire's Baby Boot Socks. (If you're wondering who Claire is, she's Kelley and Jim's second granddaughter, due in May!)
Both of Claire's projects are knit with our fabulous new yarn, Bravo Alpaca by Coeur d'Alene Yarns (218 yards per skein). Bravo is also available in a smaller package, Bravo Petites, which comes in 109-yard balls. Kelley designed her baby socks with a German short-row heel and an Icelandic bind-off. German short-rows are SO EASY; they're my favorite way to work short-rows. And the Icelandic bind-off is great for toe-up socks because it's stretchier than the standard bind-off. It also matches garter-stitch perfectly, so put it in your toolbox for those garter-stitch shawls that are all the rage!
