I remember the first time I saw Canyonlands. My family was standing at one of the lookouts and my younger brother (who was pretty little at the time) said, “Look, Dad, there’s a crack in the country!” True enough. :)

Canyonlands is a really beautiful place, and the “crack in the country” was carved out by the blue/green Colorado and Green rivers which wind through and set off the lovely red canyon. It took me a while to find the right yarn to embody what these rivers bring to mind, but I finally found it and here’s the result.

This shawl is knit “top-down” with a garter body and a lacy edging that is worked on both the right and wrong sides. This pattern can easily be up- or down-sized, just continue working the garter body until desired size and then start the border - the key is that you’ll need half your yardage for the body and half for the border, so be sure to weigh your yarn.
