An Easy Knit Baby Blanket: The Chevron Blanket

Thu, Feb 27, 20

Kelley, our shop owner is getting ready for a new grandbaby in May, and her latest project is the Chevron Baby Blanket by Melissa Clulow, a free pattern on Ravelry.

This is a really easy pattern—just a 2-row repeat for the entire thing! So perfect for knit night or TV knitting. It's knit with a worsted-weight yarn, so that makes it quick, too. Kelley used HiKoo CoBaSi Plus for her blanket. It's a blend of cotton, bamboo, silk, and nylon that's perfect for kids; it's machine washable!

Learn the Centered Double Decrease

This decrease is what makes the bold center lines between each chevron section. Please note that the pattern says "mitered decrease," but that's the same as a centered double decrease, as Kelley demonstrates here.

How Kelley Knit It

Kelley went through all of the steps in knitting her version of the Chevron Baby Blanket in a recent Technique Tuesday Facebook Live broadcast (the video above), so be sure to watch the entire thing for all the ins and outs.

You'll notice that in Kelley's version, the white stripes thinner than the colored stripes. She did that just to add her own touch. It's lovely either way!

One of the comments in many of the projects on Ravelry is about the edges curling. To help this, Kelley decided to change it up a bit and slip the last stitch of every row with yarn in front. This makes a nice, clean edge.

You can customize the size of this blanket simply by adding or subtracting stitches in increments of 24. Make a stroller blanket, a crib blanket, or even a throw for your living room!

If you love the chevron pattern, we have another blanket pattern in the shop, the Missoni-Inspired Chevron Blanket. So pretty!

If you have a baby coming into your life soon, Chevron Baby Blanket is a project you can actually finish in time for the baby shower!

Cheers,
