How to Create Kindness on Giving Tuesday

Tue, Nov 28, 17

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving, kicking off the season of charity and giving. The folks at givingtuesday.org. invite you to "Join the movement and give, whether it's your time, a donation, gift, or the power of your voice in your local community." What a wonderful opportunity to for knitters, who have a unique ability to create kindness. Here are some ideas to help in your community.

The Thin Blue Line Afghan

We developed our Thin Blue Line Afghan to raise money for a fallen police officer, but also with the hope that local yarn shops and knitting groups would use the pattern to help in their communities. The Thin Blue Line afghan is designed to be completed by multiple knitters, each knitting one or more squares to complete the project. Learn more about this project and get a kit for your knitting group! We partnered Berroco on this project to get you 25% off the yarn!

Knitted Knockers

Knitted Knockers are special handmade breast prostheses for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. Traditional breast prostheses can be expensive, heavy, sweaty, and uncomfortable. They typically require special bras or camisoles with pockets, and they can’t be worn for many weeks after surgery. Knitted Knockers, however, are soft, comfortable, beautiful, and when placed in a regular bra—they take the shape and feel of a real breast. Get the free pattern!

Knitted Knockers can be adjusted to fill a gap for uneven breasts, and they are easily adapted for those going through reconstruction by simply removing some of the stuffing. Learn more about Knitted Knockers and how to donate!

Helmet Liners for Soldiers

Wool helmet liners, worn under soldiers' helmets, provide comfort and warmth  from the harsh winters. Knitters can help keep our troops warm and and remind them that we are thinking of them back home. Helmet liners can be donated to the VFW, American Legion Posts, A.R.M.S., and Adopt-A-Soldier. Thank you for supporting our small business and for helping your local communities and those in need!
