How To Knit The Perfect One Skein Pink Shawl | Free Pattern

Thu, Apr 13, 17

We just got a bunch of beautiful pink yarn in, and I'm thinking of patterns for it! I used Malabrigo Merino Worsted to knit 198 yds of Heaven by Christy Verity last year, and it's been my go-to scarf ever since.

Malabrigo Merino Worsted is perfect for this pattern, because it takes just one skein; you have just enough with 210 yards! The pattern is free, and you need one skein of yarn: win-win!

The lace pattern is lovely, and it's easy to memorize. The shawl starts in the center top, and with yarn overs in the center and added lace repeats, the shawl grows as you knit it, becoming more beautiful with each row. I loved knitting this!

This is a triangular shawl, but it's small, which I find easier to wear than larger triangular shawls.

I usually tie the ends and wear it with with the knot in the back so the lace pattern is in the front and takes center stage. I've also put the point on my left shoulder and attached the ends with a pretty pin on the other shoulder. This was a hit at Christmas parties because I used a beautiful, sparkly snowflake pin.

The edging is garter stitch, which is a great combo with the stockinette lace pattern. I love the texture it provides.

Learn from my mistake, though: This shawl takes up almost the entire skein of Malabrigo Worsted, so don't alter the pattern!

I didn't mean to alter mine, but I started this at a knitting retreat, and I wasn't paying attention, I guess, because I added a repeat and ran out of yarn when I was finishing it at home. And, because this is what always happens, the yarn shop didn't have another ball in the same color. So I bought the same colorway in Malabrigo Rios, and it matched! (That never happens, right?) So you can't tell, but there are two types of yarn in my shawl.

You can knit this lace shawl pattern in a long weekend, which is the bonus of knitting lace with worsted-weight yarn, FAST KNIT ALERT!

I think I need a new one in pink; I guess my Memorial Day Weekend knitting plans are set.
