Many years ago now, Sue Hauser tested one of my first shawl designs (Mulled Raspberry Shawl). She loved the “quilted” look to the shawl, being an avid quilter and quilt-fabric shop owner herself, and the test-knit marked the beginning of a long-term friendship between the two of us.

When her first grandbaby was due a few years ago, I designed the Olympic Forest Baby Blanket for the woodland-themed baby room that her new grandchild would have. So, several months ago now, when Sue told me that a second grandbaby was soon to arrive, I offered to design her another one. I toyed with a lot of ideas and then remembered the shawl that started our friendship, and I adapted it into a baby blanket. Thank you Sue, for the great photos of your adorable new granddaughter and the lovely blanket. I’m rather pleased with how it came out, I hope you are too. :)

This blanket is knit from the corner outward and can be worked as either a square blanket or a rectangular blanket. It is designed to work on a percentage basis so it can be converted to any yardage (to make anything from a doll blanket to an adult sized one). The pattern includes both charted and written instructions.
