"It's sweater weather!" I don't know about you, but I've been hearing this all over the place, and saying it myself. I think I can say this on behalf of all knitters, but fall is the best time of year! Even my friends who live in warm-weather climates get that fall-knitting glimmer of excitement: time to start working on holiday projects!

I asked our store manager, Susan Melka, what excited her about fall knitting, and she came up with a wonderful Top 10 list.

Susan's Top 10

1. Getting to work with fall colors. The deep, rich colors of fall and winter are so gorgeous. We love the jewel tones and warm fall colors of the season!

Gorgeous fall colors of Rasta. Use them to knit our free Rasta Rainbow Throw!

2. Slowing down and enjoying life in the details.Fall is the time to get back into knitting, visiting with friends, and enjoy the beauty of the season.

3. Knitting or crocheting by the fire with a cup of tea (or wine). The portability of our craft is one of its greatest conveniences, but working on projects at home is just wonderful, especially if you're curled up in your favorite chair!

4. Making things that are warm and cozy. It's time to cast on scarves, cowls, mittens, and all of the projects that help keep us toasty!

The Welted Infinity Scarf: a free pattern! Here it's shown wrapped twice.

5. Reconnecting with people who have been gone or busy all summer. Our shop really ramps up in the fall. People are back from their lake houses, the kids are back in school, and it's time to cast on. Hello, old friends!

6. Translating summer inspiration into creative output. Summer is a time of inspiration for me, and I enjoy calling on that inspiration to make yarny things for the fall and winter.

7. New yarns arrive in the store virtually every day! We get to open box after box of gorgeous new yarns; it's a dream job for a yarn addict.

Our newest yarn: Llamorfrom HiKoo! It's 100% llama, and silky soft.

8. Being cold enough to wrap myself in a heavy sweater or afghan. After ten years of year-round hot flashes, getting out my sweaters is one of my favorite fall activities!

9. Planning and making holiday gifts. The holidays will be here before we know it, so get your gift list together and start clicking those needles or hooking that hook. The Rambling Cowl, at left, is a quick crocheted project someone will love. Download the free pattern now!

10. Trying new techniques, supplies, and materials. Yarn companies come out with all kinds of great stuff in the fall, and it inspires me to try new ways of knitting and new patterns.
