5/8/2018: Matching Up Cast-Ons and Bind-Offs

Today's giveaway is 1 set of Karbonz circular needles in US #2 40-inch Circulars so that the lucky winner can use these to knit a pair of socks using the magic loop method!
Kelley talked about pairing up similar looking cast-ons and bind-offs.
Here are her perfect pairs:
The Channel Island cast-on and the Channel Island bind-off pair nicely.
I-Cord Edges: Use a provisional cast-on at the beginning and the i-cord bind-off at the end. When the project is complete, take out the provisional cast-on and work the i-cord bind off. Your edges will be perfectly matched. Kelley likes this method rather than the i-cord cast-on, because that cast-on leaves some elongated stitches afterward.
The long-tail cast-on pairs well with the easy sewn bind-off. The easy sewn bind-off looks similar to an i-cord edge. This bind-off is very stretchy, and you need to thread a needle with yarn three times the length of the bind off edge. If you're binding off a large project, this might not be the bind-off to use because of that.
For matching picot edges, start with a provisional cast-on and finish with the picot bind-off. Then undo the provisional cast-on and work the picot bind-off. You'll have perfect, matching picot edges!
The old Norwegian cast-on, also called the German twisted cast-on, pairs beautifully with the Icelandic bind off. Kelley's Hugs and Kisses Reversible Baby Blanket uses the Old-Norwegian Cast-On. Download the free pattern!
Jeny’s Stretchy Slip-Knot Cast-On and Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off: Use this when you need a stretchy bind-off, such as for two-up socks or cuffs.
The tubular cast-on and tubular bind-off are perfect for ribbed edges, like hats, cuffs, hems, and so forth.
